On the Two-User SISO-Gaussian and MIMO-Fading MAC with Finite Input Alphabets

چکیده
Constellation Constrained (CC) capacity regions of two-user SISO Gaussian Multiple Access Channels (GMAC) are computed in this paper for several Non-Orthogonal and Orthogonal Multiple Access schemes (abbreviated as NO-MA and O-MA schemes respectively). For NO-MA schemes, a metric is proposed to compute the angle(s) of rotation between the input alphabets such that the CC capacity regions are maximally enlarged. Further, code pairs based on Trellis Coded Modulation (TCM) are designed with (i) PSK alphabet pairs and (ii) PAM alphabet pairs such that any rate pair on the CC capacity region can be approached. Such a NO-MA scheme which employs capacity approaching trellis codes is referred to as Trellis Coded Multiple Access (TCMA). Then, CC capacity regions of O-MA schemes such as Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) and Time Division Multiple access (TDMA) are also computed and it is shown that, unlike the Gaussian alphabets case, the CC capacity regions with FDMA and TDMA are strictly contained inside the CC capacity regions with TCMA. Hence, for finite alphabets, a NO-MA scheme such as TCMA is better than FDMA and TDMA which makes NO-MA schemes worth pursuing in practice for two-user GMAC. Subsequently, the idea of introducing rotations between the input alphabets is used to construct Space-Time Block Code (STBC) pairs for two-user Multiple-Input Single-Output (MISO) fading MAC. The proposed STBCs are shown to have reduced Maximum Likelihood (ML) decoding complexity and Information-loslessness property. Finally, STBC pairs are proposed for two-user Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) fading MAC such that the sphere decoding complexity is reduced.

Coding for Two-User SISO and MIMO Multiple Access Channels
Constellation Constrained (CC) capacity regions of a two-user SISO Gaussian Multiple Access Channel (GMAC) with finite complex input alphabets and continuous output are computed in this paper. When both the users employ the same code alphabet, it is well known that an appropriate rotation between the alphabets provides unique decodability to the receiver. For such a set-up, a metric is proposed...
متن کاملA broadcast approach for a single-user slowly fading MIMO channel
A broadcast transmission strategy for the slowly fading Gaussian multiple input multiple output (MIMO) channel is introduced. This broadcast strategy is an extension of the single input single output (SISO) broadcast approach. Perfect channel state information (CSI) is assumed known at the receiver end only. This strategy facilitates to adapt the reliably decoded rate to the actual channel stat...

Performance limits of information transfer over a discrete time memoryless Rayleigh fading channel with neither the receiver nor the transmitter knowing the fading coefficients except its statistics is an important problem in information theory. We derive closed form expressions for the mutual information of single input single output (SISO) and multiple input multiple output (MIMO) Rayleigh fa...

It is well known that the employment of multiple antennas at both the transmitter and receiver increases the overall system capacity. This paper presents an overview of capacity variation in single-user and multiuser multiple-inputmultiple-output (MIMO) systems in Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) and Rayleigh fading channels under the assumption that channel state information (CSI) is known...
متن کاملOn Non-Coherent Fading Channels with Feedback
We investigate the influence of feedback on the capacity of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) non-coherent fading channels with memory. We derive an upper bound on the feedback capacity of regular fading channels, which is shown to coincide with a previously known upper bound on the capacity without feedback. Hence, it is concluded that whereas feedback does in general increase capacity, th...
